Andrea Caupain, Chief Executive Officer
For the past 17 years, Andrea has worked passionately to make a positive impact on issues of racial equality and poverty. As Centerstone’s Chief Executive Officer since 2008, she has built a strong foundation for future growth by effectively leading the organization through critical change and innovation. She brings a strong sense of leadership and vision to Centerstone, an agency with a long legacy serving the community and providing lifeline services to the poor. Prior to Centerstone, she worked for four years for the Washington State Governor’s Commission on African-American Affairs, providing analysis and development on strategic legislative projects. Her work has also involved legislative casework for the Washington State House of Representatives. She has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Evergreen State College.
Leon Garnett, Chief Operations Officer
Leon is responsible for oversight of all agency programs and setting and evaluating company policy. Under his leadership, he has expanded Centerstone’s food and housing programs and managed the planning phase and pilot of the Financial Education Program. He joined Centerstone as a program manager in 2004. Originally from Georgia, Leon earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Morehouse College. He brings a team-oriented approach and develops data-driven strategies to ensure Centerstone programs fulfill the mission of the agency and address the needs of the community.
David Gestaut, Energy Assistance Program Manager
David manages the Energy Assistance Program, overseeing the LIHEAP and PSE HELP contracts and also supervises the EAP staff. He monitors contract compliance, budget development, and provides support to the Fiscal Director for data analysis and reports. He joined Centerstone in 2008 as a Client Services Representative. After graduating from Willamette University in 2006, David spent two years teaching in Japan. David also has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Washington. He truly enjoys working at a job where he can give back and make a difference in the community where he grew up.
Nicholas Merkner, CPA, Accounting Manager
Nicholas handles the day-to-day financial operations at Centerstone, which includes billing agency grants and also managing the finances for Centerstone’s Energy Assistance Programs. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Montana, Nicholas started his career in Public Accounting doing tax and audit work. Today, he spends his free time volunteering at other non-profits around the city and reading graphic novels.
